3.5-4 stars

This was a pretty good addition to the series. I liked both Rhona and Vigholf and enjoyed their story overall.

Rhona is a dragoness that's part of the Cadwaladr Clan (which makes her cousins or whatever to most of the other dragon MCs in the series). The Cadwaladr Clan is full of seriously good dragon warriors and just about every member is a high level warrior in the dragon army. Rhona is the eldest daughter and her mother expects her to follow in her footstep, as a dragon warrior. Unfortunately for Rhona, she really loves working with her father as a blacksmith but her mother gives her so much grief as it is, Rhona hasn't tried to leave her position as a soldier to become a blacksmith full-time.

Vigholf is a lightning dragon from the northlands and brother to Ragnar (the MC in [book:Last Dragon Standing|7117197]). Vigholf is a fighter and second in command to his brother. Vigholf has also had a thing for Rhona for years but his efforts to get her attention hasn't worked out very well.

The lightning dragons have been fighting with the fire dragons for about 5 years, fighting a common enemy that are a bunch of fanatics that want to take over the world for their god. The war has been going on for 5 years now and things seem close to a tipping point. Rhona and some of her kin went north to fight on the front and Vigholf has been around since then. Since women are rare in the north, the northern dragons tend to be very protective of their women. Vigholf tries to be protective of Rhona but she doesn't look on his actions favorably, instead seeing him as an interfering pest that doesn't think she can look after herself...which she does not appreciate at all.

Soon after the beginning of the story, Rhona gets sent on a mission and Vigholf manages to get himself sent along to help out. He still tends to piss Rhona off and this keeps going until around 1/3rd into the story and he literally has to come out and tell her he likes her before she realizes why he's been acting the way he has. Once she realizes this, Rhona is able to deal with Vigholf better and come to terms with his interest. Rhona and Vigholf start on what's supposed to be a short mission but it turns into something bigger...taking them on a journey that gives them plenty of time to get to know each other better and eventually become involved. Their mission does help to tip the war efforts greatly in their favor and in the end, Vigholf and Rhona are together and heading towards a HEA.

This was a pretty enjoyable story. I liked Rhona pretty well. My main detraction for her was that she called Izzy a whore because 2 guys were fighting over her when none of it was Izzy's fault. That judgmental attitude really pissed me off so I was glad when she stopped that crap. Vigholf was a good hero...a bit puppy-dogish and kind of dense at times but he was sweet and I liked him. Overall, the characters and story was pretty good and I'm still enjoying the series on the whole so I'd still recommend it. :)

* note - I listened to the audio version of this story and the narrator did a pretty good job... However, my major complaint is that the new narrator didn't seem to feel the need to listen to an audio of a previous book because she mis-pronounced (aka slaughtered) about half the character names (compared to how they were pronounced in the previous books). I got used to it by the end of the book but it was very annoying in the beginning.

The Dragon Who Loved Me G A Aiken Books Reviews

I needed an escape from reality and I definitely got that with The Dragon Who Loved Me. I love escaping to another world where dragons come in different shapes and colours. Wars are fought for power and everlasting love spans centuries.

It's been a wee while since I've read a Dragon Kin instalment and I was completely lost in the first half. I had decided to treat myself to a copy of the kindle and the audio. Unfortunately, I struggled with the audio. I couldn't remember who was who, who was with who and where we were at. So, trying to follow a new storyline with new characters...while trying to remember what had happened previously was almost impossible.

Once I started reading instead of listening, it seemed easier. I also went back and read the blurbs for each story and that helped me connect the characters.

I liked the first half of the story but was a little frustrated with it too. The amount of jumping around from character to character takes a bit of getting used to. I'd forgotten this was common in this series. I found that once the connection between the main characters developed and Rhona stopped acting like she hated Vigholf, it was much more enjoyable.

There was plenty of action in the second half. The dragons and humans with battle plans, hoping to end the bloody war. God's interfering because they can and it gives them a sick pleasure. We also get to see egotistical overlord's sending in their battalions to fight while watching safely from afar. At least our dragons fight alongside their men and face death from the front.

I really liked Rhona and Vigholf and enjoyed seeing their connection grow. Rhona has family issues that leave her as Mum to her siblings. her Mum is a bit of nasty piece of work and I struggled with her for most of the book. Vigholf is pretty laid back. His main focus is to protect his woman...who hasn't realised he owns her tail. It will take a wee bit of convincing on his part to get her to see how he sees things for their future.

My favourite character by far is Annwyl. She is a lovable lunatic who makes me laugh like a loon, cringe at the violence that surrounds her and sympathise for the burden she carries. One of the final scenes where she "handles" her 7-year-old twins was a riot.

Now that I've visited this series again, I don't think I'll wait quite as long to read more of them especially considering it's Eibhear and Izzy's story up next.
