Deceptions The Cainsville Series Kelley Armstrong Books
I have been eagerly anticipating the next book in this series. I loved Kelley Armstrong's Otherworld series, but personally think these are better I started reading these about 4 months ago and was bitterly disappointed to find out that I couldn't get the entire series right now. As far as I'm concerned that is the only problem with the series (never mind they are not all written). The main characters are unaware of the supernatural when the series begins so we get to learn about the world as they do. So, in this book Olivia has more or less figured out what is going on, and thus everyone is a little more up front about what is going on.
Olivia, Gabriel and Ricky continue to investigate her parent's murder charges and have another investigation on their hands with personal impact to Gabriel (which I'm guessing would come under the heading of spoiler). But the real story as with the first two is how the relationship evolves between all of the characters and how the characters themselves continue to grow. I really love how Gabriel seems to have grown over the course of the book. He is opening himself up not only to Olivia, but to also to Ricky.
Olivia has been told she needs to make a choice, I know who I want her to choose, but I'm really finding myself wondering why she would need to make a choice at all. I can't wait for the next two books to see how things go from here.

Deceptions The Cainsville Series Kelley Armstrong Books Reviews
Olivia (the main character) in this I think 3 book series was a very likeable character. Finding out several major things about herself, she handled it well. She came off as a woman with courage. Whatever the people of Cainsville through at her she delt with it. Yes she was down at times but she always got back up. The paranormal sections in the book added to the fun. I can see her story going on dealing with any new people or things that come her way. Read the books in order if you can, if you like suspense with a little extra added in read this book. Plus her man is gorgeous!
Great characters with fun twisty plot. A beautiful girl changed by satanic, druid, and fae magic is head over heals in love with a biker and absolutely friends with a lawyer. The biker is a
beach boy looking hunk and the lawyer a dark knockout. Together they must search to find the truth. Breathtaking to the end.
This series by Kelley Armstrong is really a turn in a different direction. It's plot is unusual as the main female character has parents who are convicted serial killers, whom she is trying to find out the truth about. She ends up with other characters dying in her home then she has to move to another town that has weird supernatural residents who hide secrets from her. There is a male character who has his own mysterious background story. then that main male character has another client who is a biker gang. the main honcho has a son who joins in the goings on and between the three of them, they apparently are part of a past life trio of lovers and friends of some sort. Great read that isn't predictable by any stretch
Kelley Armstrong is one of my favorite authors and while I love her YA novels, I wished that Deceptions felt more adult. I thought the story would be darker and that the plot would be more intricate. Overall though I did enjoy reading it and would probably read another book set in the same universe. While the mysteries of Cainsville and the Larsen case are finally revealed there the end left the Welsh lore fairly open-ended so I'm not sure if Armstrong has future plans for this world.
As other reviewers mentioned, the love triangle between Olivia/Gabriel/Ricky started to come into tighter focus in this book. I love a story with a good romantic hook but I find it completely out of character for Olivia to desire a romantic future with Gabriel (especially the Gabriel of Deceptions who has not progressed much emotionally). This is my main complaint of the book. I do not believe that a woman like Olivia (strong, intelligent, confident, etc.) would be remotely interested in becoming romantically entangled with Gabriel due to his emotional distance, especially when she is already involved with a "perfect" guy (Ricky). Considering Gabriel over Ricky feels immature, unrealistic, and very "fated." I find the whole star crossed lovers/"fixing" the emotionally distant love interest plotlines to be fairly stale at this point.
I don't want to dwell on the romantic eye-roll that is this love triangle TOO much as there was a lot about the book that I enjoyed. The Larsen case is effectively solved at the end of the novel and, though it felt a little rushed, I was pretty satisfied with the way Armstrong decided to wrap it up. While I did feel like there were elements of the plot that were expected I thoroughly enjoyed the ride and did find surprises along the way.

The third book in the Cainsville series by Kelley Armstrong. Olivia is continuing to be plagued by visions and most especially by the little blond girl who insists she has something Olivia needs to see. Gabriel is going to everyone he can find to try and figure out how to stop the visions in his efforts to protect Olivia from whatever is going on but when Olivia finally allows the visions to run their course, she finds out more than she could have ever dreamed about her distant past and how Gabriel, Ricky, and her are entwined in something so much bigger than they ever could have imagined. Now she must try to figure out how to let them know without scaring them away or the consequences could be horrific for not just themselves but for races they are just now learning are still alive. With this hanging over her, Gabriel now under suspicion of murder, and more details coming to light about her parents' supposed crimes, Olivia may be nearing her breaking point and the relationships she cares most about could be in jeopardy.
I've really enjoyed this series. While there is a supernatural element, so much is about self-discovery and trying to solve the mysteries around Olivia and her entire life. I couldn't put this down and am now saddened that I have to wait another year for the next one.
