Promise to Keep Promises Book 2 edition by Jessica Wood Louisa Maggio Literature Fiction eBooks
Promise to Keep follows on the heels of the jaw-dropping ending of Book 1 Promise to Marry. This second installment continues the story of Chloe and Jax and delves more deeply into the deterioration of their friendship. We see why Chloe was driven to the choices that she made and why Jax wasn’t there for her in her time of need.Sometimes when books continually switch from past to present they lose the flow of the story. This is not the case with Promise to Keep. I liked the dueling POVs of Chloe and Jax as well as the shifting time periods. I was interested to find out about the timeline of their friendship and what really went wrong.
I had similar complaints though as I had with the first book….maybe just too much angst for my liking. It just seemed that anything and everything that could happen to these characters did. I was waiting for a tornado to roll in next I guess it just started to seem unrealistic after a time. Despite that I was still rooting for Chloe and Jax to make it in the end….but no ANOTHER CLIFFHANGER!! My jaw dropped once again! I will give Ms Wood some props. She sure knows how to shock a reader with the unexpected.
I’m invested at this point so I will be buying Book 3….hoping I feel something more when the story wraps up.

Promise to Keep Promises Book 2 edition by Jessica Wood Louisa Maggio Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
I liked the continuation of the story. Initial suspicions I had were confirmed about a certain character, so my gut instinct was reliable. Yes, Chloe made certain choices, but so did Jackson. There is enough responsibility to go around that is explained in this book. I like that so many questions I had from the first book are unfolding in this one. The ending for this book was a bit dramatic, but didn't take away my desire to read the third book, because I did like Chloe and Jax so much. They are two fully fleshed out characters and I love that in a story. I felt their emotions and just wanted to keep reading.
Like the first book, I did not put this one down until I finished it. Another enjoyable read!
This was another case where I was intrigued enough to keep reading, even though the book itself left a lot to be desired. Frankly, this is ALL backstory-which was frustrating as a reader because I never felt like the plot took off. What plot there was seemed contrived. Also, this has an alternating narrative, which only works when there is a distinct difference in the narrative voice--which was not the case here (so I kept losing track of who was talking). And, like the first book, there were grammatical errors that really should have been fixed before it was published.
I had one other complaint, but it is spoiler-ish, so I won't address it here. Still, I read 2 books of the trilogy, so I might as well read the third....
This is another great book in this series. Chloe and Jackson were best friends from the time they were 7 years old until they were 21 years old. They both were interested in being more than friends but they didn't communicate it to one another and the distance caused some troubles. In this book, we learn more of Chloe and Jackson's back story and what they are both going through now.
Chloe had a pretty messed up childhood. She feels immense guilt and blames herself for what happened to her cousin. She felt that she needed to do something to help her family and she ended up having to do something that made her feel horrible about herself. But she was trapped doing that for the money and helping her family out. She tried to talk to Jackson several times about what she was going through and things that were happening but he just made it so hard to do that. She felt very much alone and it was hard to make friends while she was at Penn for college.
Jackson went off to Harvard for college while Chloe went to Penn. He ended up getting all wrapped up in what was happening at college and joining a fraternity. He broke many promises and pushed Chloe to the side so many times during their college years. I know he cared about her but he got so wrapped up in other things that he wasn't there for her when she needed him the most. He also was so hurt from what happened but he never gave her a chance to explain. He just thought he knew what was going on and ended their friendship because of it.
Definitely worth reading.
Promise to Keep is book 2 in the Promises series. It continues with Chloe and Jackson's story. In this book we see all the back history between these two and what led to the jaw dropping ending of Promise to Marry. I can promise you that you will both love and hate Jackson in this book. I definitely felt for both of them and I developed a soft spot for Chloe. Things are not always as black and white as they appear. Prepare yourself for another holy cow cliffhanger that will once again have you picking up your jaw from the floor. I am beyond excited to see where Jessica is going to take us in the final book!
Real disappointed in this book… I got this book back in 2015 and I’m pretty sure my reading tastes have changed because while I loved the first book, I was less than impressed with this one.
It seemed it was just the same story but from the male MC’s POV. So really I just read the same thing. Not to mention the premise was completely unrealistic and I know I know, its fiction and so doesn’t necessarily have to be realistic. However, even in this world there are some rules that apply. And I just didn’t believe it.
The blurb describes the story in a nutshell. But honestly it just drug on and on before it got the part where I was finally getting new information. It was filled with a bunch of past tense things that were intended to give us depth of character and background but we had all that from the first book so it ended up just feeling like fluff to hold folks over to the next book.
Now don’t get it twisted, I do enjoy alternate POV’s with the same story but this one was just poorly executed IMO. Not gonna finish this series which is a bummer because I hate when I bail on a series.
